Dar Kisania
The blue city's best-reviewed riad — extraordinary guest scores, mountain views, and a rooftop breakfast in the medina heart.
3 properties in Morocco's most photographed city — intimate riads and guesthouses painted in every shade of blue, with Rif Mountain panoramas and exceptional guest scores averaging 9.3/10.
Chefchaouen (shef-SHA-wen) is one of Morocco's most instantly recognisable cities — an ancient hilltop medina painted entirely in shades of blue, nestled dramatically in a valley of the Rif Mountains. Founded in 1471, it feels like a place frozen in time, with steep blue alleyways, terracotta pots, and cats sleeping in sunlit doorways.
Accommodation here is deliberately small-scale — riads, guesthouses, and family-run dars — which means genuinely personal service and authentic experiences. It's a 3.5-hour drive from Fez or 4 hours from Casablanca. Most visitors stay 2–3 nights.
The blue city's best-reviewed riad — extraordinary guest scores, mountain views, and a rooftop breakfast in the medina heart.
A traditional riad wrapped in the blue hues of Chefchaouen's medina, with Rif Mountain panoramas and homestyle Moroccan cooking.
A charming guesthouse perched above Chefchaouen with breathtaking panoramas, organic breakfasts, and instant access to mountain trails.
No airport. CTM buses from Tetouan (1hr), Tangier (2.5hrs), Fez (3.5hrs), Casablanca (4hrs). Shared grand taxis from Tetouan are faster. The medina is a short walk from the bus station.
Spring (Mar–May) and autumn (Sep–Nov) are perfect — wildflowers on the mountains, comfortable temperatures (18–25°C). Winter can be cold and misty — atmospheric but bring layers.
Arrive early morning or evening for the famous blue alleyways without crowds. The best views are from the Spanish Mosque hill above the medina. Allow 2 nights to explore at a relaxed pace. Cash is king here.
