Ksar Ighnda
A kasbah-inspired luxury resort on the edge of the Sahara with an infinity pool, Atlas Mountain vistas, and desert excursion packages.
4 desert properties — from exclusive private kasbahs to Hollywood crew favourites. The ultimate base for Sahara sunrise tours, Ait Benhaddou day trips, and Atlas Mountain drives.
Ouarzazate (war-za-ZAT) — nicknamed "the Hollywood of Africa" — sits at the crossroads of the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert. It's the production base for films including Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and Game of Thrones. The city itself is a quiet, pleasant base; the real draws lie nearby: Ait Benhaddou (30min), the Draa Valley, and the Saharan dunes of Merzouga (4hrs away).
Hotels here are notably atmospheric — kasbah-style resorts with earth-coloured walls, Atlas Mountain panoramas, and swimming pools that turn golden at sunset. It's a 3.5-hour spectacular mountain drive from Marrakech via the Tizi n'Tichka pass.

Ouarzazate's iconic hotel — favoured by Hollywood productions, with beautiful gardens, a pool, and the Taourirt Kasbah on its doorstep.
The Sahara's most exclusive address — a private kasbah with personal staff, bespoke desert itineraries, and total seclusion.
The budget traveller's favourite in Ouarzazate — clean, central, with a rooftop view of the Atlas Mountains and easy Sahara access.
Ouarzazate Airport (OZZ) has limited flights (mainly summer charter routes from France). Most visitors drive from Marrakech (3.5hrs via Tizi n'Tichka pass — spectacular) or take the daily CTM bus (4.5hrs, ~120 MAD).
Spring (Mar–May) and autumn (Sep–Nov) are ideal — warm days, cool nights. Summer is extremely hot (40°C+). Winter evenings are cold but the days are sunny and clear — perfect for Atlas photography.
For Sahara dunes, Ouarzazate is a staging post — you still need to drive 4hrs to Merzouga. Book a 2-night Sahara package through your hotel. Ait Benhaddou is best visited at dawn before tour groups arrive.
