4 boutique properties in Morocco's most artistic city — from Relais & Châteaux palaces to windswept coastal villas, all within the UNESCO medina or on the Atlantic shore.
Essaouira (es-SWEE-ra) is Morocco's most bohemian coastal city — a blue-and-white UNESCO-listed medina hugged by ancient Portuguese ramparts and a windswept Atlantic beach. It's long been a magnet for artists, musicians, and the perpetually curious. Jimi Hendrix visited in 1969; today it hosts the Gnaoua World Music Festival each June.
The city's hotels are some of Morocco's finest boutique properties, including two Relais & Châteaux members. The constant Atlantic breeze keeps temperatures cooler than Marrakech year-round, making it a superb summer escape. It's a 2.5-hour drive from Marrakech via a scenic coastal route.
